Event Information
Date: 03/23/2010
Time: 5:30 PM
Fee: $26.00
Location:
The Downtown Missouri Athletic Club, located at 405 Washington Avenue in St. Louis.
In 1993, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was introduced as a compromise measure by then-President Bill Clinton, who had promised to allow all citizens, regardless of sexual orientation, to serve in the military. It remains a controversial policy.
In February 2010, the controversy came to a head, as the Pentagon announced that it would study the issue. While Army Chief of Staff Gen. George Casey states that he has "serious concerns" about overturning DADT, (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35545155/ns/us_news-military/from/ET), the top U.S. commanding general in Iraq, Gen. Raymond Odierno, states that gays should be allowed to openly serve in the military (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35523891/ns/us_news-military/from/ET).
Join the Federalist Society for a dinner and a rousing debate on whether the U.S. military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy should be continued. Dave Roland of the Show-Me Institute argues that the policy should be abolished; whereas Prof. Michael Lewis of Ohio Northern University argues in favor of retaining the policy.
But before the debate, join SLU Law students for an hour of fun and networking--free drinks and appetizers.
The networking begins at 5:30. Dinner starts at 6:30, and the debate commences at 7:00.
